“Heartfelt, fun, and moving. Soccer fans, this is the book for you!”—Rachael Lippincott, New York Times bestselling co-author of She Gets the Girl

A former U-17 soccer star fake-dates a fan in this funny, heartfelt, sporty YA romance, perfect for fans of Casey McQuiston, Becky Albertalli, and Jason June.

Kailey used to know exactly who she was: a star U-17 soccer player carrying on her World Cup Champion stepmom’s legacy, and half of a power couple with her hot teammate turned girlfriend. Then an injury on the field changed everything.

Permanently benched by an ankle that refuses to heal and new debilitating symptoms from her connective tissue disorder, Kailey finds that her soccer dreams and her relationship have gone up in smoke. And she has no idea what to do with her life.

Desperate to figure out her future, Kailey decides to travel with her stepmom’s pro team for the summer and tour colleges along the way. At a game, she runs into her toxic ex who brags about dating a hotshot rookie on the rival team. Kailey panics and announces she has a new girlfriend too. Now she has 90 minutes to get someone to date her, or she’ll give her ex one more reason to think she’s pathetic.

In the stands, Kailey runs into Abby, a nerdy soccer superfan who jumps at the chance to be her fake girlfriend. Except Kailey realizes her new “relationship” can’t end after just one game, and that kicks off a summer of limping around colleges, stargazing in cornfields, and cheering for goals with a cute girl who somehow understands her disability better than anyone else. Could Kailey’s feelings for Abby be more than just a game?
