In this modern folktale illustrated by a Caldecott Honor winner, two sisters who have made their home next to a warming, welcoming geyser must protect it from nearby villagers who take the geyser for granted.

On an island of moss and mist, two sisters live in harmony with the land, its animals, and a geyser that generously warms their home. But as the nearby village grows, people begin tossing their garbage into the geyser…without considering the consequences. Soon, the geyser must find a way to stop them, and the result is a reminder the village will never forget. This lyrical tale with intricately layered and boldly colored collage illustrations by Caldecott Honoree Micha Archer gives fresh voice to an ever-important message about protecting nature’s wonders.

  • "As bright and unexpected as the geyser itself, this beautiful story of nature's power reminds us of the importance of listening to our world."
Jane Yolen, award-winning author of Owl Moon
