John Milton

About the Author

John Milton (1608–1674) was an English poet, polemicist, scholar, and civil servant whose famous epic Paradise Lost (1667) redefined English literature, alongside his other works such as Areopagitica (1644). Blinded by glaucoma in his 40s, he dictated his literary masterpieces amidst political upheaval and disillusionment, wrestling with themes such as authority, sin, and freedom.
